// AI USAGE

How I use AI, and how much of it went into this site.

I am not one of those extremists that avoid and talk bad about vibe coding software all the time. I actually do think that AI is a pretty useful tool. What I really avoid is handing my thinking over to AI.

I am very adamant when it comes to reading pasted AI content. I will never give someone something made entirely by AI to read or check without having checked it myself first.

With that said, where do I draw the line and where do I think it's really useful? Let's run a list.

Side projects that won't harm anyone #

Much like this site or my blog, these are small side projects that I keep for fun; most of the code in those was written by AI, with heavy direction from me and a lot of patience, but still.

For these cases, I think there's no harm in using AI. After all, it's something that won't take any data from anyone, and will just present static content most of the time.

For these cases in particular, AI has been so helpful to me that it even allowed me to return to writing, since the restructuring of my blog was a long-delayed project of mine. Same with this website.

Small projects with remarks #

One great example of this is my Proton Drive client for Linux, a small project I made for myself, but allowed it to be open source because it's useful.

However, in this case, I am dealing with people's data and secret values, so I can't just allow it to be vibe-coded completely; therefore, I check the most important parts and run a loop of agents to argue among themselves until I am satisfied enough that I would use it myself.

Important projects #

For very important projects or client projects that I know I am either making money off, and therefore I have responsibility to deliver a good product, I will read the entire thing, even if I have been aided by AI to do the code.

For these cases, what I usually do is that I plan using AI to research, get information, or get options and so on. I write this plan as a to-do list and I implement it myself. Then I run some agents on top of that for specific tasks like security and bug hunting.

Writing and opinion #

This case is one of the cases where AI will probably never touch. If I'm writing an opinion article or an essay or anything, you're really seeing my writing as a human. No AI has created anything.

There are three acceptable uses of AI in writing (at least my writing):

  1. Fixing structure or punctuation, since English is not my native language. And, even if it was, I suck at languages.
  2. Transcription (speech-to-text), because it's easier for me to dictate all the things, and it will automatically apply #1 to it.
  3. Fetch or write descriptions/technical blocks that I would've copied from another place anyway.

This means that all the text in this website is entirely written or dictated by me. Same goes for my blog and all other essays/articles I write.
