My old and reliable headphones. Right now I use them for monitoring and mixing.
Impressions
I originally bought these headphones because I wanted something that had a longer cable, and somewhat a better sound quality than my previous Edifier headphones (which I don't remember the model). This was in 2017, so it's been a long time from the date I'm writing this article in 2026. In 9 years I only had to swap the pads once, and I switched it to a bigger one which isolates a bit more than the original.
I particularly liked the headphones, they're quite comfortable, they're not heavy, they also don't press a lot on my head and they're pretty comfortable to use for extended periods of time, which is one of AKG's key ideas.
The isolation is not really good (even with the new pads), but I don't think these headphones are made for that, however, they do have a very nice sound, at least for me, this is so true that I didn't even have to set up any EQ's for it, and, if I try to set EQ's for it, they just sound horrible… I think that's because the sound curve he has is very wonky…
You can see it's kinda all over the place, maybe because it's tuned to be more of a final-user friendly sound. In any case, I think it's a pretty ok sound for the price, which was cheap as hell.
I mainly use it as a monitoring headphone for music and casual listening anyways.
Reading along, I think I could've made a better choice by having the AKG K371 which is deemed to be one of "the best closed back headphones in the market", I might get one just to see how it goes.
Final thoughts
I mean, I have no complaints about it. I had to replace the pads once because they got old, but it's been 9 years, right… So it actually lasted quite a while. I like the sound quality, I like the build, I just dislike the long cable (3m) it comes with which I cannot remove, but this is the same thing as in the Beyerdynamics DT 990 Pro
I am searching for a replacement closed back, but, for now, it's pretty ok.
