Description

A wireless system so I don't need a cable between the instrument and the amp. I use it both at home and at band rehearsals.

I think this was one of the most interesting purchases I've made. I bought it during a sale, I think it was a Black Friday, and I paid absurdly little for it, something like 300 kr. Fun Generation is Thomann's own generic brand, so it could be any white label Chinese thing in history, and I'd heard from a musician friend of mine that these wireless connections are usually pretty bad, first because sometimes they don't make good contact so you get interference, and second because the battery lasts very little. So I thought, fine, I'll get the simplest and cheapest one I can to see what it's like.

Impressions

I got very lucky with this one, because it's very good. I haven't had big problems with the battery, even though they really do run short. If you leave it on for two or three hours straight it drains relatively fast. That's fine for me, but I wouldn't take it to a show or anything live, I'd use cables there. Even though there's no specific delay that I can measure, I feel like it connects a bit strangely, there's a difference in the sound. If I plug the cable or if I plug this in, I can clearly tell there's a difference in the guitar sound.

Other than that they're excellent. They take up to six channels, so I'm thinking about buying another set, probably waiting for the next Black Friday, to put on both ends of my pedalboard, one at the input and one at the output, and then I wouldn't need any cable at all. Today I have to connect either the guitar to the pedalboard or the pedalboard to the amp, and one of those sides has to be a cable, because a wireless system always works as a transmitter and a receiver, and I don't have four of them.

One of its big advantages is that the plug swivels. So on my Action PJ for example, I can put it in and fold it into the body of the bass, and it's all fine, it won't knock into things and break. That's different from the ones that are completely straight, where you end up bumping into something and breaking the jack. The problem is that on my Cort it doesn't go in, because the jack hole is very deep and it can't reach the end, so I can't use it there. Then again I can't use practically any right angled cable on that guitar either, none of them fit into the jack hole. Only straight cables work on it.

Final thoughts

I recommend it, not strongly, but I do recommend people buy one, because it's very cool, it's very good and it's relatively cheap compared to every other wireless system out there. It kind of works for everything, and it makes a lot of sense for someone who's starting out.
