Description
I got the Metal Zone together with the other pedals that I have, especially together with the DS-1 and the compressor. It's a nice pedal and I really like it, but it is a conscious decision to use it, because the Metal Zone is one of the most hated pedals in all rock history, since it changes the sound.
Impressions
I really like the end sound of it, because it is heavy and it is very sensitive to anything. It's a high gain pedal, so you would be able to do those Zakk Wylde harmonics pretty easily, and it's amazing to play metal like Crazy Train by Ozzy and some Iron Maiden songs.
But that's kind of about it, because it is so heavy that it doesn't leave any space for anything else. Maybe a delay, but other than that it's almost impossible to scoop it correctly, and it's quite a beast to tame, because as I said it is a heavy pedal and it's a heavy gain pedal. If you increase the volume a bit you will get a lot of gain, which comes with a lot of noise, so you have to keep the volume down but still have some volume to get it louder. It's quite a trade-off that you need to do, especially if you're scooping the mids and everything.
I really like the EQ part of it, because you can actually select the frequency and you can select how much of that you're going to pass. So it is better than the other pedals, and I wish other pedals also had this.
Final thoughts
It is a conscious choice to use it. I don't use it quite often, but when I do, it's for a specific use case, usually a specific song or a specific part of that song.
