MacBook Pro M1 Max

9.4/10 owned actively-used updated 2026-10-03

After the iPad I got this one. At the time, this was the flagship of Apple, I got the highest spec'd MacBook I could because I knew this would outlast generations.

Description

My personal laptop and the one I travel with. It's also the computer I use for my own work.

I told the story in the iPad Air note, how I came here without a computer and used the iPad for a long time. When I bought the MacBook I wanted it to be the most top of the line machine possible, because I didn't want to have to buy another computer any time soon.

Impressions

That plan worked. This computer is several years old and it's perfect, and it's much better than several other computers I've had from other companies that were much newer, including my current M4, which is also a MacBook Pro and doesn't come anywhere near the same performance.

I'm very happy with this computer because it covers basically all of my needs. Everything I need to run on it, I can, including artificial intelligence models, even games, anything. I use it as a work tool for whatever personal thing I'm doing, and also as a travel tool, so I take it practically everywhere and whenever I travel it comes with me.

I don't have many complaints about it. Maybe my biggest one is that it's relatively heavy to carry, though it's much lighter than other laptops I've had, and it heats up quite a lot. Even so, I've heard its fan very few times, it practically never spins up.

In other words, it's an absurd machine, a war tank. I don't just do small jobs on it, I do music production, a whole series of things, I used to record video on it, edit video, podcasts, photos, all of it. So I do basically everything I need on this machine and it works very well.
