Description
I got them recently, when I got my first turntable and I needed some speakers other than my KRK monitors in the office, because I was using those and I cannot fit the speakers and the turntable in the same place. I got these really dirt cheap because they were used and they were quite in a bad shape, so I had to open them, clean them on the outside and also on the inside, fix a few electronic components and also a potentiometer that was failing. But it is a remarkably good speaker. They are now plugged into my Fluance turntable and I listen to them quite often.
Impressions
They sound really nice. The bass and the mids are, I think, the best parts of them. They are quite shitty on the highs and treble, but I'm ok with that, because I think too much treble is a bit too bright, so they're kind of soft, and I think if I just use an EQ it will be better.
One thing that I really hate about them is actually the cabling, because they don't have two separate inputs. You can either put the turntable in the auxiliary in, or you can put something else on the input, and if you put one in, the other one will be turned off, so you cannot have your cell phone connected and the turntable connected at the same time. But that's fine, I don't mind it.
They have some hissing when I turn the pot for the volume, and they also lack any sort of feet that would make them stand a bit, so I had to add some silicone feet below them, and I also added a foam to keep them at roughly 15 degrees or something.
Final thoughts
I'm really surprised about it. I thought it was going to be a quite shitty speaker, but it is really nice, and I think it was a very good purchase. I don't think I'm going to get rid of them so soon, especially because I don't listen to music very loud and they are not something that should be driven super loud either. If I change them, I would just switch to something maybe bigger or maybe more high fidelity.
