Description
A brick-built keyboard I used on the work setup until it developed ghosting and dead keys. I keep it because it's super different and nice.
The Adam was an interest purchase. I really wanted to understand how a Lego keyboard works. I bought it around 2021 or 2022, when it had just come out, the first version of the Adam. Back then I only had the K8, which was making a lot of noise, and I wanted a new keyboard, something different. Then I saw this little thing and thought it was really interesting, because you can swap the bricks around, even though I never did. It's wired only, there's no Bluetooth on it.
Impressions
I liked it a lot. It was one of the best keyboards I used for a long time. It's very comfortable, the keys are very comfortable, the switches are very comfortable, and the sound of it is extremely satisfying.
It has two problems though. The first is that even though it's made of Lego and it's well built, over time the Lego pieces loosen up. So if you have to take it somewhere, or if you have to build something on it, it ends up being very fragile and it breaks. It doesn't work very well as something you carry around, it's nicer to keep it on your bench.
The second is that it basically works by putting a PCB underneath a Lego build. The board is very well laid out and very well built, but it doesn't always make contact with the keys. Over the four or five years I've had this keyboard, some keys started ghosting, or stopped working completely, or started double clicking, and that bothered me a lot, so I ended up not using it anymore.
I didn't sell it or give it away though, because I think it's a really cool expression of art, a very interesting one, it's a very unique keyboard. The maker has several other keyboards now, and this Neon Genesis Evangelion theme is great, I think the EVA colours are very beautiful. The first version only came in those colours, but today there are other versions in other colours, and my Adam has Evangelion keycaps too, which are very cool. I liked the switches so much that I bought a separate set of the Adam switches and put them in my K8 afterwards.
Final thoughts
I really recommend buying this keyboard, it's very good value and it's a very comfortable and very beautiful keyboard. What I don't know is whether they've fixed that problem with the ghosting and the keys. The other thing is that it isn't Bluetooth, it's completely wired, which isn't a big problem for me but might be for some people.
