Description

My main keyboard, and the best typing experience of all the keyboards I've had in over 10 years. It came with KSA keycaps and I swapped those for an ASA pudding set, but I kept the Gateron Jupiter Red switches it shipped with. It's all aluminium and it runs QMK.

Impressions

I wasn't expecting anything from this one and I didn't even have much intention of buying it. This was around the time I had the K12 and still had the K8. I'd just sold the K12 and I'd bought another Keychron with an Alice layout, which I tried and didn't like, mostly because of the weight, it's absurdly heavy, but also because the layout was very strange to me, so I ended up not using it.

All of that happened around the same time, so I was looking at keyboards here and there without actually looking for one, just to see how I'd evolve my keyboard. Then I was walking through one of the stores, I think it was Webhallen at the time, and I saw this keyboard there. They had a row of keyboards on display, so I went to test it, and I liked the feel of that switch so much, the Jupiter Red, that I thought, this keyboard is very good. I looked it up on Keychron's site, found the model, ended up buying it, and to this day it's the keyboard I use 100% of the time.

This was also the keyboard that started me on keycaps and the types of keycaps, because I found out there were several other profiles, and which ones I liked and which ones I didn't. I found out I don't like square keycaps, the Cherry style ones. I like rounder caps that are flatter, as opposed to the ones that curve to follow the shape of your hand. So I ended up going with either KSA, which is slightly flat but not that flat, or ASA, which for me is still the best. There's also OSA, which is very similar to ASA, but it's very hard to find, and ASA is already hard enough.

I don't have a single complaint about this keyboard, it's perfect. I'd maybe like it to be easier to configure, because it's QMK but it doesn't always connect to the computer, the thing is a bit wonky, though it works.

Different from the older ones, at some point Keychron started shipping all their keyboards with a dongle as well as Bluetooth, so this one has both. I currently use it on the dongle, but the dongle isn't very good, it's a bit wonky too. It works with some things, but it gives a lot of interference, even being 2.4 GHz. The Bluetooth works well, though I'm going to move it to wired, which I think works better on the computer than the other options.

Being all aluminium it's heavy, so it grips the desk really well, but it doesn't have the little feet for support, which is maybe my only complaint. There's nothing to raise or lower it, so it's always at the same angle, so to speak. I think that's the only thing I have to complain about and the only reason I don't give it a 10.
