Description
The mic on the Macbook. It's a condenser mic I got in 2018 or 2019 when pandemic hit. It's been alive and well for all this time. It's quite sensitive to all the room, especially in the current cardioid mode, which is the trade-off against the MI14. It's extremely easy to set up and has four patterns: cardioid for me alone, bidirectional for two people across the desk, stereo for recording an instrument.
I use it just for work, it's an outstanding mic, all the videos I ever recorded in Youtube, all the courses and everything was done with this not-so-little guy.
The problem, though, is that it's only a USB input, so I can't plug it in the Behringer Xenyx 802 or the Scarlett Solo which take XLR inputs. This is probably why I will replace it with the MI14 on the work setup.
Impressions
The sound quality of the Yeti is really nice. It picks up a long tail of signals and it's also very sensitive. I set it with the gain below halfway, so it's like, I don't know, maybe 10 o'clock, and it is still very loud. I can speak very loudly and I can speak very far away from the microphone and it will work.
The good thing behind it is that it has a gain and a pattern knob, so I can set both the pattern and also the gain. For now I'm just setting it towards myself. The other nice thing is that it has a return output, so it actually has a DAC in it, and I can plug a 3.5 mm TRS jack into it, so I can have different headphones plugged in and control them differently. The only problem is that there is no way to remove the sound of the microphone from it, so you will always hear yourself when you are plugged into the microphone directly, it's basically a return.
The nicest thing I like about this is that it has a physical mute button with an LED that keeps blinking, so it is really nice for meetings. The bad thing about it is that it's really heavy and it's quite big. The newer versions that are smaller, I've heard they are worse, so this is one reason why I don't sell it.
I have had this since 2018, I think, and it is extremely good. It is as new and I used it every day, entirely, so it has seen some stuff. I brought it from Brazil with me, so it also has seen plane travel and a bunch of stuff, and it is quite sturdy. I don't know how it is after Logitech purchased the brand, because this one is from before that time.
